This was truly a special commission for me as I was able to combine my passion for performance in outdoor locations with my interest in developing work with non-professional dancers of all ages and abilities.Īt the time of the proposed commission, I was already planning to develop Protein’s strand of cross-generational work (started with Alfresco in 2005) with a new thematic focus related to travelling and cultural identity. This is what I thought when Greenwich Dance commissioned Protein to make an outdoor, site-specific new piece for the 2011 Greenwich and Docklands International Festival, involving a large cross-generational cast from the local communities of and around Greenwich.
